Sometimes it’s helpful to have the benefit of a trained therapist even if you aren’t currently in a therapeutic relationship. Jonathan meets with individuals or couples on a short-term basis to help them sort through a current challenge or major decision. In this role, Jonathan helps clients by:
- Clarifying interests, goals, obstacles, and consequences.
- Identifying ambivalence or mixed feelings that cause reluctance.
- Helping the client develop language to say what they really want to say.
- Supporting a meaningful decision-making process that incorporates intellectual, emotional, and intuitive ways of knowing.
Moments in which a short-term consultation might be appropriate include
- “I just got a job offer that is a big step up, but something doesn’t feel right about it.”
- “I need to talk to my spouse because I haven’t been happy lately, but I can’t bring myself to bring it up.”
- “I can’t decide whether to pull my child out of this school.”
- “I’m struggling to tell my family that I don’t want them to come over for Thanksgiving.”
Fees and a structure for the consultation can be discussed by phone prior to the first meeting. Please feel free to contact Jonathan to discuss whether or not a consultation would be a good fit for you.
